Sega Genesis Game Genie master codes:
(this doesn't apply to emulators)

Have you ever wanted to play a Sega Genesis game and
use 5 different Game Genie codes, but found out that you
needed to enter a master code also, so you really could
end up only using 4 codes instead. Well, if this has
ever happened to you before, there is a way around
having to use a master code.

Here's what you do: First, enter in all 5 codes you
want to use (don't include the master code). Next,
before you press the start button on the controller,
make sure that the Game Genie switch is in the "off"
position (down). Now press the start button and wait
until you first see any sign of the game starting
(usually about 5 seconds). Then immediately flip the
Game Genie switch "on" (up). That's it! The game should
work fine. No more need for master codes.

For the sake of argument, I should say that while this
method has worked on all of the games I own that use a
master code, I have not tried this on every single game
(that uses a master code). Here is a partial list of the
games that I have personally tried this on:

Desert Strike
F-22 Interceptor
Jungle Strike
NHLPA Hockey '93
PGA Tour Golf 2
Road Rash
Road Rash 2
Road Rash 3
Street Fighter II C.E.

This method is especially usefull on games like Desert
Strike, Jungle Strike, Road Rash 1 and 2, and Street
Fighter II C.E. because these games have so many codes
(from 43 to 259 codes for each game), that it's hard to
pick only 4.

So if you have a game that needs a master code, and you
wished you could squeeze in just one more code....now
you have a way.
