I was researching BBSs and retro computing and i saw the old acoustic couplers and thought those where cool how you could use a phone to connect to another computer. I was looking at my Dreamcast and was wondering why no homebrew games utilized this? Just imagine you and a friend playing a SHMUP or something. It wouldn't require any complicated DC-PC server, just a phone line to the back of your Dreamcast. You just put in there number it dials there Dreamcast and you could play. The Saturn used this with NetLink. If this was implemented into new games Dreamcast multilayer could essentially last forever as long as their are two Dreamcast still alive. I couldn't imagine it being to terribly difficult to program something like this for the Dreamcast.
Please tell what you think about this idea I would like to here what others have to say, especially if they have programing knowledge for the Dreamcast.
