I got a new adapter in the mail today - a converter that takes xbox controllers to ps2 plugs.
Its a hard search, as you will find when the terms "ps2 xbox adapter/converter" are put in most purchase sites, you'll find an adapter for ps2 to xbox systems.
This one single seller had the adapter I was looking for.
When combining this with the total control plus, the very famous and well known logitech wireless xbox controller works on the dreamcast!!!
There are although two very important notes!
1.) The analog triggers don't work - these buttons have been re-assigned to the black/white buttons under the four-face buttons on the xbox remote. And while these buttons are analog on the xbox, this analog function doesn't transfer over (you have to press the button all the way down to translate to a full dreamcast trigger squeeze).
This is ok for alot of games, and passable for some that require it (in PSO, since my androids all have their healing stuff on the trigger toggle, its not really desperate). But it does hurt alot of other games that require strafing (alien front), or more common trigger use (PSO force class...can't get the hang of it, don't have two thumbs...).
2.) There might be mixed results when other people try this depending on your dreamcast's controller port... because the last time mine had its f1+ resistor blow out, I just got pissed and soldered a wire bridging the connection. This controller setup might be taking more power than it should, and just might not work on a dreamcast that still has its original resistors (sorry I don't have a stock one that I'm willing to test at the moment).
The biggest issue is the triggers... which kinda sucks. I'm looking closer at the pcb and seeing if there is any specific modifications I can do to change this, but it doesn't look clear.
It might be possible although to rewire the controller itself to swap the triggers and the black/white buttons... But i'm pretty fond of this controller, as its one of the best wireless controllers (in my opinion) ever made.
