Animals
There are 4 types of available animals to raise on your farm in Sugar Valley. Cows, chickens, a horse and a dog can all come to live on your farm and will all provide you with a myriad of benefits.
Chickens
These are your standard Harvest Moon farmland fowls. If you played any previous HM titles, they will be no surprise. They can be left out on sunny or cloudy nights and lay one egg in the morning as usual. You can buy a fully grown chicken from the Farm Store for 500G, or if you don't mind waiting the extra week you can buy an egg from the supermarket and pop it in the incubator from day one. Chickens take three days to hatch and a full week to mature. They can eat chicken feed or Alfalfa. Eggs sell for 50G each, and golden eggs for a whopping 150G.
Cows
Cows in Sugar Valley are also pretty by the books. They require sunlight, brushing, talking and milking daily. They can be left out overnight on sunny or cloudy days. Cows can be purchased from the Farm Store for 2500G and take about a week before they'll start giving milk. They can give birth if given a 'cow seed', as well
Milk S - 130G
Milk M - 200G
Milk L - 300G
Milk G - 400G
The Horse
There are two ways to attain your horse. The first is to buy a brown horse from the farm store for 5000G. The second way is on Summer 2nd when Bob shows up at your house. He'll have with him the horse that has the most affection for you if you worked at Brownie ranch. One way to ensure you get the color you like is to brush only the color horse you like the most and neglect the others. Horses eat either fodder or Alfalfa, and to be left outdoors on sunny or cloudy days. Once your horse lets you ride it, you can use it for a quick mode of transport around town. The speed he goes depends on his friendship level with you. You can just his heart levels in your diary.
---Horse Heart levels---
* 0 - 0~29
* 1 - 3-~79
* 2 - 80~139
* 3 - 140~199
* 4 - 200~239
* 5 - 240~255
---Horse affection conditions---
* Talk - +1
* Brush - +3
* Call with whistle - +1
* Leave outside for 24 in sunny or cloud weather - +7
* Feed with fodder while he stays inside the barn - +2
* Feed with Alfalfa while he stays inside the barn - +6
* Forget to feed him while he stays inside the barn - -10
* Wish for horse friendship from the Goddess - +5
* Hit with any tool - -20
Dog
The dog is attained in much of the same way as it is in the original Save the Homeland game. Every morning put a nice type of food (Very Berry, Egg, milk, etc.) in the dog's bowl outside of your house. After about a week, try and pick up one of the dogs that always seem to be running around your farm. You'll then be prompted with a message asking whether or not you'd like to keep this dog as a pet. You'll have a choice of a dog with round ears and red scarf, or pointy ears and a blue scarf. Your new canine friend needs to be fed daily and taken inside on rainy days, unless of course you've built a dog house. After he's caught, you can feed him anything you like.
His heart levels and most of his affection conditions are for the most part the same as the horse.

Fishing: You will be able to get the fish rod at the tool shop: 600G if I'm not wrong, then I would like to explain the mini game fish quickly: go to the beach as example: you will see black spots in the see, that the fishing area: take your fish rod, and square,then the mini game appears: you have to click "O" first on the level indicator where there are fish, if you make it nicely you will have a chance to get it, then there is a large gray circle:and a blue circle moving in the gray circle, touch O each time the blue circle touch the grey one and after one or two try like it you will pull a fish (or a shoes...or a bottle...or a can :x).
Harvesting: another important point, is that it seems, i said it seems, that all the crop in the flower shop seems to be available for all the seasons! I don't remember clearly if it was the rune factory 1/2 who make me think that each seasons have their own crops but it's seems that in this game it's work for all of it, and you can then harvest on two seasons (like putting tomatoes end of summers without being worry of seeing it dissapear in beggining of fall. In this case i'm not sure again about what i said so if i can get a confirmation from Lunatia will be great. But if i'm true so you can be more productif.
Bachelorettes: I was desesperate at the beginning because i was not able to see how was going one with my relationship and the girls, so you will notice that all the potential girls have a grey heart near their name. But giving them what they like you will that the the heart will change in a shacking blue one and then i suppose in pink (i'm still in blue of the flower girl) so like this you can see where you are approximately on your love adventure.
Tree and axe: As you have to protect the forest and you can not cut tree everydays, if you go without food you will see that after one tree or 2 you will be totally tired and you will have to wait a few days (even a week if it's rainning) before going back again. It took me 2 weeks at the beginning to get only to lumber so bring food or upgrade your axe if you can to make each tree chop efficient.
House Upgrade
As in every Harvest Moon title, one of the main goals of the game is to upgrade your house from a tiny shack to a deluxe dream home. However, one thing that does differ is your inability to get lumber right away.
To be able to get lumber you must first gain the trust of Woody by doing his part-time job at least 5 times. Once you've accomplished that, talk to Woody when he's standing outside the carpenter's house and select the second option. You'll be transported to the same area that you were at for the part-time job, but now all the lumber you collect will be yours. Smaller trees take 2-3 swings to demolish and yield about 1-2 lumber, while larger trees take approximately 5-6 blows and produce 3-4 pieces of lumber. Once you've got enough money and materials, head inside and examine the clipboard in front of Gwen to select which house upgrade you'd like.
Mining
After doing the part time job with Rudolph at least five times, the mine becomes available for free use whenever you feel like it. There you can find precious minerals vital for upgrading your tools or giving to people as presents. You start out with access to one room only, but as time goes by new rooms with rarer metals open up for use. Here's a simple map of the mines:

Room 4b :
Power Berry Locations :
The Powerberries in Sugar valley are attained by proxy of you little dog Fido or Rover or Pochi or whatever you decided to call the little furball. Once you've gotten your dog and purchased the Ocarina from the tool shop and your faithful friend is at 3 or more hearts, your ready to go! Bring your pooch to one of the specified areas, whip out your ocarina and play the correct notes for the 'search' command (Down, Left, up) and let him do the rest.
You won't always get a Powerberry in one of the place, but rather a mushroom or truffle or something to that affect. If this is the case, try again the next day or in a different place. The dog will only effectively search twice per day. There are four possible Powerberries to find, and one extra Powerberry you'll receive in an event with your dog and the Harvest Sprites. Happy hunting!
