Director of Programming Larry Hyrb (Major Nelson) has confirmed that banned Xbox One accounts will not lose access to purchased games, despite previous comments by Xbox support.
An Xbox Support Twitter answer from June 13 reads, ”If your account is banned, you also forfeit the licenses to any games that have licenses tied to it as listed in the ToU.” The question specified the Xbox One, however later Xbox Support stated that it was talking about the Xbox 360.
So naturally confusion started to spread. Luckily Major Nelson cleared it all up with Reddit Games during an E3 interview. When asked for a clear answer on the matter he replied, ”Absolutely not, you will always have access to the games you purchased.”
When asked about what happens when the time comes to shut down the Xbox One servers–a long way off, but still an interesting question–he replied, ”I’ll get the real answer, I just don’t know it yet.”
