Old psp - What do i have to do?

Hi!
I havnt used my psp for ages (it is the first one that ever came out), and i want to get it up to date with a custom firmware.
My current firmware is 3.30 OE-A. A friend put in on my psp ages ago.
I dont have a clue how that works, so i need a bit of help.
How do i get my psp up to date?
What do i have to install and how? What does that "launch from xps" mean?
