where to go from 4.01

Hi guys !

sorry to make another thread...
i've read a lot but im a bit confused. today i tried to run an iso for the first time that didnt work. so i'm thinking i should probably upgrade this PSP. its currently on 4.01 M33-2, it's a PSP 1004. Do i have to upgrade to OFW 5.03 and then try somw CFW ?

i have been away from the scene for some years because my psp worked fined till now. thanks in advance for help and support.
