aladdin

Aladdin ( ə-LAD-in; Arabic: علاء الدين ʻAlāʼu d-Dīn or ʻAlāʼ ad-Dīn [ʕalaːʔ adˈdiːn]; ATU 561, 'Aladdin') is a Middle Eastern folktale. It is one of the best-known tales associated with the medieval collection One Thousand and One Nights, despite not being part of the original text; it was added by the French scholar Antoine Galland into his translated version Les mille et une nuits on the basis of a folktale that he heard from the Maronite storyteller Hanna Diyab in the city of Aleppo.
